The complaint about AI making people worse at thinking usually gets framed as a reason to use it less. The more useful version is narrower. What costs you is the speed. A complete answer arrives before you have formed any view of your own, and you never find out what you would have concluded.
This prompt puts the effort back in front of the answer.
The prompt
Before you answer, ask me 2-3 questions that make me think through this myself first. Only give me your full answer after I've tried, then tell me what I got right or missed.How to use it
Use it on anything you're expected to have a view on. Strategy, hiring, a recommendation to your boss.
Actually attempt the questions. Answering "not sure" three times gets you the normal answer with extra steps.
Skip it when you just need a fact. This is for judgement, not lookup.
What it doesn't do
It's slower, and that's the entire point. If you're under deadline you'll skip it, which is fine. Just notice how often that's the reason.
